Dr. Rodolfo Gomez Bahamonde obtained his PhD at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. In 2010 he achieved the national research contract Sara Borrell funded by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III of the Spanish Ministry of Health and he moved to the Bone and Joint Research laboratory at the Instituto Fundación Jiménez Díaz, Madrid, where he worked as a postdoctoral fellow. Afterwards, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Musculoskeletal Research Group at Newcastle University, UK. Next, he achieved the national research contract Juan de la Cierva Incorporacion funded by the Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad.
In 2015 he has achieved the national research contract Miguel Servet funded by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, being in the top ten of the awarded researchers of the call. He has published more than 50 papers in international journals and is a reviewer and associate editor of several journals in the Musculoskeletal field. In the last years his research has been focused on the study of TLR4 in joint tissues and its potential as a therapeutic target. He is also involved in the study of the effect of certain metabolic disorders in bone and cartilage tissues. Moreover, he is interested in the differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells to different cell types and their associated epigenetic signatures. Additionally, he is involved in the design of new bioinformatics tools to investigate the role of several transcription factors in this process.
