Dr. Ryan Ungaro is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and the Susan and Leonard Feinstein Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Center. He specializes in the care of patients with an array of gastrointestinal illnesses with a focus on ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Dr. Ungaro received his medical degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He completed his internal medicine training and served as chief resident at the Mount Sinai Medical Center.

He then went on to complete fellowship training in gastroenterology at the Mount Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Ungaro received training in translational IBD research as a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Fellow. Dr. Ungaro's research in areas such as the role of toll-like receptors in intestinal inflammation and environmental factors in IBD has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and presented nationally. His current research interests include risk stratification, optimization of therapy, and early intervention in IBD.
