Sandhya Murthy, MD, is an Attending Physician at Montefiore and Assistant Professor of Medicine at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Her clinical focus is on pulmonary hypertension, advanced heart failure, cardiac transplantation, and mechanical assist devices.
After earning her Bachelor of Science at the College of New Jersey in 2001, Dr. Murthy attended the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, earning her medical degree in 2005. She went on to Albert Einstein College of Medicine, completing an internship and residency in internal medicine in 2008. She continued her post-doctoral training at Montefiore Medical Center with a congestive heart failure clinical research fellowship in 2009 and a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine in 2012. Following this, she completed a fellowship in advanced heart failure/transplant at Columbia University Medical Center in 2013.
Dr. Murthy’s research centers on pulmonary hypertension in special populations, including sickle cell disease and chronic kidney disease. She investigates the role of therapy in these areas, as well as ethnic and racial differences in the incidence of pulmonary hypertension. Her work has been shared through publication in several reviewed journals as well as poster presentations. Dr. Murthy is board certified, and a member of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association and the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation.
