Sara A. Hylwa MD, FAAD

Dr. Sara Hylwa is a faculty dermatologist at Hennepin County Medical Center, an Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the University of Minnesota, and the Residency Program Director for the Health Partners/Park Nicollet Dermatology Residency Program. She received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, graduating with magna cum laude honors. She completed her medical school training at the State University of New York at Buffalo in Buffalo, NY with cum laude and research honors. Before graduation, she spent a year as a Visiting Professional for Clinical Research in the Department of Dermatology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, studying dermatitis and delusional infestation. Her internship was in the field of internal medicine at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. She completed her residency at the University of Minnesota, where she was chief resident in her final year.

Dr. Hylwa has authored articles and book chapters on hand dermatitis, patch testing, allergic contact dermatitis, and contact allergens, among others. She has received research grants through the American Contact Dermatitis Society as well as travel grants to study patch testing for drug reactions in Switzerland from the American Contact Dermatitis Society and Women’s Dermatologic Society. She is a member not only of the American Academy of Dermatology, but also American Contact Dermatitis Society where she is currently on the Board of Directors, The European Society of Contact Dermatitis, the Association of Professors of Dermatology, and the Women’s Dermatologic Society. Dr. Hylwa is passionate about teaching and mentoring.
