Dr. Sebastien Benzekry, Ph.D. is the Head of the Inria-Inserm team COMPO at the Inria. He has participated in and led several multi-disciplinary projects bridging cancer biology, mathematical modeling, and clinical applications.

He is interested in the applications of data science in oncology, computational modeling of tumor growth and metastasis, and pharmacometrics. Specifically, he currently tries to integrate statistical methods and machine learning algorithms together with mechanistic modeling in a global approach termed 'mechanistic learning'. After several studies in cancer biology and experimental therapeutics, his focus is now on clinical applications with an emphasis on metastasis. The current objectives of my research are: 1) to predict metastatic relapse (e.g., for early-stage breast cancer), 2) individually predict response/relapse/progression patterns in patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (mostly in NSCLC) and 3) give simulation tools to optimize the design of combinatorial clinical trials.
