Serge Motte MD, PhD

Dr. Serge Motte is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Vascular Diseases, Free University of Brussels (ULB). He is also working at University Clinics of Brussels, Erasmus Hospital, Brussels, Belgium. He qualified as a doctor in 1982, went on to complete his post-graduate training in internal medicine in 1987, and was awarded his PhD in 1997, all at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. The subject of his PhD thesis was the characterization of ATP receptors expressed in aortic endothelial cells.

Dr. Motte is Chairman of the Thrombosis Guidelines Group of the Belgian Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis and of the Belgian Working Group on Angiology.

Dr. Motte has authored or co-authored over 40 publications on a variety of subjects. His research interests include factors affecting the incidence of deep-vein thrombosis, and the diagnosis and management of venous thromboembolism. He also contributed to the 2003 guidelines of the Belgian Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis and of the Belgian Working Group on Angiology regarding thromboprophylaxis in general medical patients.
