Sheldon Ellis Litwin MD

Dr. Litwin’s main interests are in the role of obesity in cardiovascular disease and the role of weight loss as a treatment for these conditions. He also has a long-standing interest in the diastolic function of the heart and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). His current research efforts fuse the 2 main interests into a clinical trial evaluating the effects of weight loss induced through intensive lifestyle modification on exercise capacity, quality of life, and cardiac structure and function in patients with documented HFpEF.

Dr. Litwin received his: Medical Degree at Washington University, St. Louis, MO. He did internships, residency, and chief residency at the University of Arizona. His Cardiology Fellowship was at Beth Israel Hospital, Harvard Medical School. He is certified in echocardiography, cardiac CT, cardiac MRI, and nuclear cardiology. He was the director of echocardiography, advanced cardiac imaging, and the cardiology fellowship director at the University of Utah. He joined the faculty at Georgia Regents University in 2011 as the chief of the division of Cardiology. In September 2014 he joined the Medical University of South Carolina as the Countessa Alicia Spaulding-Paolozzi endowed professor of cardiac imaging.
