Simone Scheithauer MD

Prof. Dr. Med. Simone Scheithauer is the director of the Institute and Professor for Hospital Hygiene and Infectious Diseases (IK&I) at the University Medical Center Göttingen. She is a specialist in hygiene and environmental medicine and a specialist in microbiology, virology, and infectious disease epidemiology as well as an infectiologist and heads the UMG crisis team together with Prof. L. Trümper (ÄD). 

Simone is an appointed member of the Commission for Hospital Hygiene and Infection Prevention (KRINKO), spokesperson for the Permanent Working Group on Hospital Hygiene (StAG) of the German Society for Hygiene and Microbiology (DGHM), member of the Supervisory Board of the Helmholtz Center for Infection Medicine (HZI), advisor to “Plasma for life” HAWK Hildesheim/Holzminden/Gottingen, member of the scientific advisory board of the Medical Faculty in Bielefeld and appointed member of the expert committee “Avoiding nosocomial infections – postoperative wound infections (QS WI)” at the Institute for Quality Assurance and Transparency in Health Care (IQTIG). Ms. Scheithauer is co-editor of the standard work “Hospital and Practice Hygiene” – hygiene management and infection prevention in medical and social institutions and co-editor of the journal Krankenaushygiene up2date. 

Simone is the clinical director of the Use Case Infection Control in the HiGHmed consortium of the medical informatics initiative and coordinated B-FAST (National Research Network "Applied Surveillance and Testing"), NUM-1 together with Prof. Gerd Fätkenheuer. She is currently involved in MolTRAX, GenSurv, PraeInfekt, CODEX+ and CollPan, NUM-2 as well as the consortium projects InnoBri and Opti-ITS. In GenSurV (Genomic Pathogen Surveillance and Translational Research) and MolTraX (Molecular Surveillance and Infection Chain Tracking for Local Health Authorities), Ms. Scheithauer is in the respective management team. At PREPARED, she is responsible for the overall coordination of the project with Prof. Jochen Schmitt as well as the management of the core work package (1) and the management of the work package (3 together with PD Dr. Claudia Denkinger).
