Smita Bhagwan

Dr. Smita Bhagwan is a specialist neurologist practicing in KwaZulu Natal. Smita Bhagwan received her MBBCh summa cum laude from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2008, where she was awarded the Health Graduates Association Award. She completed her specialization in neurology at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital in Durban, receiving the Novartis Medal in her final year. Her key interests are in epilepsy and sleep disorders, and she continually strives to advance her knowledge of neurophysiological procedures to help with the careful diagnosis thereof. Together with her husband, Dr.AmithKeshave, Dr. Smita Bhagwan founded EEG Africa in 2019 with the ultimate goal of improving the care of patients with epilepsy by assisting with diagnosis, management, education, and creating public awareness. The primary aim of EEG Africa is to provide the highest quality EEGs for patients of all ages, with a special focus on pediatric patients. One of the key areas of focus is to provide sleep studies to both children and adults, assisting in the accurate diagnosis of sleep disorders. Sleep disorders are linked to multiple chronic health problems and greatly impact the quality of life and health.
