Stan Bernard, MD, MBA is President of Bernard Associates, the leading global competition consulting firm for the pharmaceutical and health care industries. Dr. Bernard is internationally recognized as a pharmaceutical and healthcare industry competition consultant, speaker, and author. He has been featured on national television and in leading publications, including the Wall Street Journal, Business 2.0, and Business Week. Dr. Bernard has published over 75 book chapters, syndicated reports, and articles. He currently writes two different columns on competition for the journals Pharmaceutical Executive and Pharmaceutical Executive Global Digest. Dr. Bernard has worked with nine of the top ten global pharmaceutical companies and with over 125 other leading pharmaceutical and health care companies across five continents.
Dr. Bernard previously worked at Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceutical Company where he held six different executive business and medical positions. He was U.S. Product Manager for the launch of the cholesterol-lowering drug Pravachol, the first Bristol-Myers Squibb pharmaceutical product ever to exceed 100 million in any worldwide market in its first year of sales. He served as U.S. Managed Care Medical Director, the first person to hold such a position in the pharmaceutical industry. Dr. Bernard was U.S. Director-Pharmacoeconomics, where he initiated and directed Bristol-Myers Squibb’s health/disease management initiatives. He co-initiated and helped direct the Medical Services Managers Program, the first doctor-only field based sales force in the U.S. pharmaceutical industry. He directed U.S. Medical Affairs for BMS’s infectious disease products and worked in Worldwide Licensing and Business Development.
