In 2004 PD Dr. Stefan Perings offered to join the CardioCentrum Düsseldorf as a partner. In 2008 he was appointed to a committee by the German Society of Cardiology to set up chest pain units in Germany. With the establishment of this structural improvement in the care of patients with acutely threatening heart diseases, he developed an increasing interest in organizational and structural work, both in the scientific and professional political environment. After the first clinical chest pain units were successfully established in Germany, chest pain clinics were set up under his leadership in the established area. This care concept for structured acute diagnostics and treatment of patients with unclear chest pain is certified nationwide by the German Society of Cardiology.

After completing his studies at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf, PD Dr. Perings completed his training in the clinic for cardiology, pneumology, and angiology at the University Hospital in Düsseldorf. During his almost 10 years of clinical work, he not only had ample opportunity to learn the entire spectrum of cardiology, pneumology, and angiology but was also able to gain 2 years of experience in the entire spectrum of internal medicine and emergency medicine in the intensive care unit and one year in the emergency room.

Stefan completed his scientific training and clinical research in Prof. Kelm's working group, and after a while, it turned out that clinical research and working with patients suited him more than purely experimental science. He gained his venia legendi with his habilitation thesis "Cross-sectoral care of patients with coronary heart disease, malignant cardiac arrhythmias, and implantable devices".
