Stephen H. Dinwiddie MD

Stephen H. Dinwiddie, MD, received his medical degree from the Eastern Virginia Medical School and completed his residency in psychiatry at the Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis.

He is board-certified in general psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, and addiction psychiatry. He held faculty positions at Washington University in St. Louis, Rosalind Franklin Medical School, and the University of Chicago before joining the faculty at Northwestern University in 2011 as a professor of psychiatry.

Dr. Dinwiddie has published more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters. Areas of scholarly interest include forensic psychiatry, the genetics of susceptibility to addictive and antisocial behaviors, electroconvulsive therapy, and psychiatric ethics. Areas of clinical interest, in addition to general forensic psychiatry, include the management of treatment-resistant mood disorders, neurostimulation, and consultation-liaison psychiatry. Dr. Dinwiddie currently serves as director of the Division of Psychiatry and the Law and vice chair for Clinical Affairs for the Department of Psychiatry.
