Stephen McHugh, MD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He is an award-winning teacher, researcher, public speaker, and consultant with extensive experience in perioperative and anesthetic pharmacology, technology, and clinical care and has been recognized as a Fellow of the American Society of Anesthesiology.

Dr. McHugh is a diplomate of the National Board of Echocardiography and an expert in perioperative transesophageal echocardiography and point-of-care ultrasound. As the former director of the Fiberoptic Bronchoscopy Simulation Course at the University of Pittsburgh Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine and an instructor for the Difficult Airway Management Course at the American Society of Anesthesiologists Annual Meeting, he has years of experience teaching other physicians the skills of airway management. He is a contributing author to medical textbooks, has published in multiple peer-reviewed medical journals, and serves as a reviewer for a variety of medical journals. He is an editor for the American Board of Anesthesiology's MOCA Minute continuing medical education group, a reviewer for the International Anesthesia Research Society's annual meeting, and an experienced speaker and lecturer. Within the residency program of the University of Pittsburgh Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, he serves as the director of the intern Clinical Base Year.
