Dr. Eappen is the Medical Associate of Surgical Directions and a board-certified anesthesiologist. He is the current Chairman of Anesthesiology and the Chief Medical Officer at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston, as well as Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Eappen is an expert in optimizing operational throughput and efficiencies in the OR. He specializes in anesthesia staff modeling, anesthesia compensation analysis and block time scheduling.
From 2006 until 2009, Dr. Eappen served as the Vice Chairman for Clinical Affairs and the head of the Clinical Assessment Committee at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He has published articles on quality and operational efficiency in the utilization of operating room resources, and he speaks across the nation about topics such as turnover time and the impact of a surgical checklist on the reduction of surgical complications.
Dr. Eappen is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Medical Association, Massachusetts Society of Anesthesia, Massachusetts Medical Society, Society of Education in Anesthesia, American Society of Regional Anesthesia and is former president of the American Association of Clinical Directors (AACD).
