Tamera Coyne-Beasley, MD, MPH, Professor of Pediatrics and Internal Medicine, Director of the North Carolina Child Health Research Network of the NC Translational and Clinical Science Institute, Director of Adolescent Medicine Education in the Department of Pediatrics in the UNC School of Medicine, and Pediatric and Adolescent Director of NCNC, has been elected President-Elect of the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine. She will assume the position of President of the international organization in 2017.

The Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine is an international leader in promoting optimal health and well-being for adolescents and young adults. Recognizing that health is more than the absence of disease, the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine promotes positive youth development, illness prevention, achievement of individual potential and a sense of physical, mental, and social well-being. In its pursuit of optimal adolescent health and developmentally-appropriate health care, SAHM believes that scientific research provides the evidence base for effective health promotion as well as prevention and treatment of illness and injury.
