Dr. Themistocles Dassopoulos is the Medical Director of the Baylor Center for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD). He earned his medical degree at Brown University before completing a residency in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. Dr. Dassopoulos was fellowship trained in Gastroenterology at the University of Chicago. Prior to joining Baylor Scott & White Health, Dr. Dassopoulos served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and as an Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of the Section of Inflammatory Diseases at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

Dr. Dassopoulos is a nationally recognized expert in IBDs: Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, microscopic colitis, and pouchitis. The mission of the Baylor IBD Center is to provide state-of-the-art, patient-centered care to patients with these lifelong and sometimes debilitating diseases. Disease management entails a treatment plan for inducing and maintaining remission, a focus on patient function and quality of life, monitoring and prevention of disease and treatment complications, support for the patient in his/her role as self-manager, and care coordinated with the patient's primary provider and other specialists.
