Dr. Thomas C. Bower is Chair of the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Mayo Clinic and is Professor of Surgery at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. Born and raised in the Dakotas, he graduated summa cum laude from the University of South Dakota in 1978, then graduated with high honors from Baylor College of Medicine in 1982. He completed his general surgery residency and vascular surgery fellowship at Mayo Clinic and then joined the faculty in July 1989. He served as Program Director of the Vascular Surgery Fellowship between 1997 and 2010 after which he was named Chair of the Division. He recently completed his tenure as President of the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery. He has authored or co-authored 208 peer-reviewed publications, written 60 book chapters, given numerous invited presentations, and is in the Teacher Hall of Fame at Mayo Clinic.

His clinical interests are broad, but he has specific expertise in the surgical treatment of complex aortic diseases and aneurysms, open mesenteric and complex renal artery reconstructions, vena cava graft replacement for malignancy, major vascular reconstructions for malignancy, carotid body tumors, and aortic graft infections. He is a member of many surgical societies and has been elected to the American Surgical Association. He enjoys the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, skiing, and cycling.
