Dr. Walter Rick Bukata is an emergency physician. He completed the EM residence at Los Angeles County / USC Medical Center in 1975. Prior to that, he was in the Indian Health Service for two years (was the doctor for the tribe at the bottom of the Grand Canyon for a year). He was in the first group of trained emergency physicians to obtain a staffing contract at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys, CA. He started an emergency medicine abstracting service in 1977 and began doing literature-focused courses for doctors in 1985. He has since put on over 500 in addition to at least another 150 for PAs, NPs and both emergency and primary care clinicians. He was the recipient of the ACEP Education Award in 1993. He was director of the ED at San Gabriel Valley Medical Center for 25 years. He has been the Medical Director of the Center for Medical Education since 1977. We continue to develop educational programs for clinicians.
