Delaware CME Requirements for Physicians

MD Physician Requirements:

• 40 hours of AMA PRA Category 1 credits for every two years
• License renewal for physicians starting with 2017
• Starting from 2017, A physician must fulfill 2 hours of continuing education (CE) biennially in the areas of controlled substance prescribing practices, treatment of chronic pain, or other topics related to prescribing controlled substances
• A physician renewing licenses for less than a year may not be required to meet any continuing medical education requirements until the time of the next subsequent renewal of his registration in the premises of Delaware.
• It is mandatory to complete a 1-hour training on how to recognize child sexual and physical abuse, exploitation and domestic violence, and reporting obligations specific to Delaware Law under the Medical Practice Act every renewal . (Ref. 16 Del. C. §903)

DO Physician Requirements:

• 40 hours of AMA or AOA category 1 credits for every two years
• OCC/MOC will not be accepted as a substitute
• Starting from 2017, A physician must fulfill 2 hours of continuing education (CE) biennially in the areas of controlled substance prescribing practices, treatment of chronic pain, or other topics related to prescribing controlled substances
• A physician renewing licenses for less than a year may not be required to meet any continuing medical education requirements until the time of the next subsequent renewal of his registration in the premises Delaware.
