Eric A. Weiss, MD, FACEP is one of the founders of the field of Wilderness Medicine and recognized as a world-renowned expert in Wilderness, Expedition and Emergency Medicine. Dr. Weiss founded and directed the first academic Wilderness Medicine Fellowship in the country at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Weiss is a Professor Emeritus of Emergency Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine and Stanford University Medical Center and was the co-founder and served as the Chairman of the American College of Emergency Medicine (ACEP) Section on Wilderness Medicine.
Dr. Weiss is the author of several texts on Wilderness Medicine, including A Comprehensive Guide to Wilderness and Travel Medicine, Wilderness 911: A Step-by-Step Guide to Backcountry Emergency Medicine and Improvised Care, Marine Medicine: A Pocket Guide, Wilderness & Travel Medicine: A Comprehensive Guide, and co-authored the Field Guide To Wilderness Medicine.
Dr. Weiss was the Editor of Emergency Medicine Clinics of North America, Wilderness and Environmental Medicine. He worked two seasons as the physician for the Himalayan Rescue Association in the Khumbu region of Nepal near Mt. Everest. Dr. Weiss was prominently featured in two Discovery Channel documentaries on Heat Illness and Cold Water Survival.
